Extended assignment for Assemblin for the expansion of Rödjan Prison in Mariestad
Assemblin’s existing assignment to provide electrical installations for the expansion of Rödjan Prison in Mariestad has been extended in a new award-of-contract decision, meaning that Assemblin will also be responsible for the design and installation of security systems at the prison. The total contract value for the two assignments is approximately SEK 70–80 million.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service’s facility in Mariestad will be expanded by redeveloping the existing open prison with associated occupational activities and staff areas. Redevelopment work began in 2020 and is due to be completed in 2024. The prison is owned by the state-owned property company Specialfastigheter and operated by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and the plan is to open a new secure unit with space for approximately 150 inmates. Once expansion is completed, the prison will have around 350 places.
In 2021, Assemblin was contracted to install electrical technology in the new-build project. Installation services are ordered as and when required. The assignment also includes the design and installation of electric vehicle charging stations and a substation for a new energy supply. The project is staffed by personnel from Assemblin’s branches in Mariestad, Borås, Töreboda and Skövde. The contracted volume of this assignment is approximately SEK 45–50 million.
It has now been decided that Assemblin will be responsible for security systems in the new prison. This entails overall responsibility for all security systems, including fire alarms, intruder alarms, access controls, intercoms, CCTV and personal alarms for staff. The new security contract is worth SEK 25–30 million.
“We are delighted with this extended assignment in Rödjan. This project is installation dense, making the assignment complex and highly demanding in terms of competence. Assemblin has been building up one of the leading security technology organisations on the market for some time now and we are now looking forward to supplementing our electrical deliveries with stable, modern security systems. Our objective in both assignments is to work in close collaboration with other stakeholders to contribute to smart and sustainable installations adapted to the wishes and demands of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service,” says Fredrik Allthin, president and business area manager of Assemblin Electrical.
